Why private practice is not going away

A terrific article in the Business of Medicine section of Medscape, talking about physicians who do not want to be employees going back to private practice, or doing it for the first time. A lot of compelling stories from individual docs here, as well a discussion of the larger picture. There are a lot of reasons that doctors want to have their own practice, including autonomy, control of their time, feeling like they can dedicate themselves more to their patients than to the paperwork, and more.

As a team, we’ve been hearing this from healthcare providers informally for quite a while, and I (Greg) as a physician hear it from colleagues often. This is part of why we wanted to do this – to make it possible for providers to have the independent practice they dream of.
